WHO WE ARE
One of Scotland’s most scenic areas, East Lothian covers an area of some 270 square miles. The council’s headquarters are in the market town of Haddington, which is approximately 20 miles from the capital city of Edinburgh.

East Lothian has a population of around 100,000 and extends from Musselburgh, the largest town, eastwards to Dunbar. East Lothian is the seventh smallest mainland authority in Scotland, with 23 elected members and approximately 4,500 employees. As a unitary authority, East Lothian Council is responsible for the provision of many local services. Our aim is always to provide the best possible services and value for money for all our citizens.
